IMPRESSED TRUCKS

DELAY IN SOME DELIVERIES • ■ ■ MINISTER APPEALS TO OWNERS . (P A.) WELLINGTON, March 6. In a statement to-night, the Minister for Defence (the Hon. F. Jones) referred to. the taking of privatelyowflOd motor vehicles for army purposes. “Many vehicles. have .been examined and selected as suitable,” said the Minister, “and in all these cases impressment' warrants have been issued by the Chief Impressment Officer, Wellington. , “On the-whole,- there has been a remarkably good response from owners,” said the Minister, “but in a numbel- of cases vehicles have not yet been''delivered to the collection centres. ; -This is causing disorganisation, and is seriously interfering with the army programme. It is essential, therefore, that the owners concerned should act immediately in accordance with the impressment notice, otherwise the Government will have no alternative hut to enforce the impressment regulations to meet the needs of tlte , qripy. ..I therefore ask all owners ‘cAjicer'hed to give the m attfer urgent attention, and to arrange for immediate delivery. ‘■‘Where there is any doubt- about impressment, owners should get in touch at Once with the local licensing authority. It is pointed out to owners that where out of pocket expenses are incurred in. the delivery of vehicles to collection centres, provision is made in the regulations for reimbursements of such expenditure.”
