TO RE IMPRESSED.

MOTOR LORRIES AND TRUCKS. STEPS TAKEN IN DUNEDIN. (P.A.) DUNEDIN, This Day. The initial impressment of private lorries and trucks for use by the Army occurred yesterday, the first warning being a letter in the morning mail ordering delivery in the afternoon. One leading operator expressed the view that tradesmen’s deliveries are likely to be severely cut, if not abandoned, which was probably a good move, as the Dominion was over-serviced in this respect. A “Guardian” reporter was told this afternoon that impressment officers had visited Ashburton on Tuesday and yesterday, but as far as was known no impressment had been made at Ashburton.
