SOUTH CANTERBURY TOURNEY MBS H. THOMPSON WINS TITLE Three finals were decided at the South Canterbury Croquet tournament yesterday’. The women’s championship was won by Mrs H. 1 Thompson, of Ashburton, the A grade open title went to Mrs Kirk, and the open levels singles to tMrs Tomlinson. In the women’s championship Mrs Thompson beat Mrs Cleary, 24-26, 26-24, 26-19. B and C grade matches in which Ashburton players took part resulted as follow: B Grade Championship—-Second life, second round: S. K. Martin beat Mrs Sewell 26-22; first life, second round: Mrs Sewell beat Mrs Stevens 26-17. C Grade Championship—First- life: Mrs Boothi’oyd beat Mrs Queree; Mrs Mclnnes. beat Mrs Bridges, 26-14.; second life: Hoare beat Mrs Warriner 2614; Warriner beat Hart 26-14 ; Mrs Boothroyd beat Mrs Flintoff 2620. Handicap Singles—Mrs Queree beat Mrs Warriner 26-25; Mrs Boothroyd beat Mrs W. J. Taylor 26-24. THE WEST COAST TOURNEY At- the West Coast croquet tournament yesterday, Miss McDowell; Ashburton, (31) and Mrs Herring, Makura (6J) beat Mesdamcs Walmsley (4-J-) and Bay, Makura (9), 26-6.
