OYSTER DISPUTE.
NO SETTLEMENT YET (Per Press Association). _ INVEIRCAIIGILLr, February 20. No progress was made to-day in the settlement of the oyster dispute. Although the Government instructed the parties yesterday to settle their differences immediately, to-day’s negotiations were, not successful. It is not yet known, what form the. threatened Government intervention will take. A representative of the merchants stated to-night that the secretary of the Southland Employers’ Association had a. telephone, conversation to T day with the president of the men’s union about the action to be taken by the parties to comply with the instructions of the Government for a settlement of the dispute. The chief point at issue was the interpretation of the .award given by the Industrial Court last yeas'. An offer was made on behalf of the merchants to refer the dispute to the. disputes committee set up under the terms of employment, but it was stated that this was rejected.
