EXPEDITIONARY FORCE
PROMOTION TO COMMISSIONS. GENERAL FREYBERG ’& RIGHT. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, This Day. From now on comparatively few appointments to commissioned rank in the Expeditionary Force is to he made in New Zealand. The Chief of Staff (Major-General Sir John Duigan) said that the Expeditionary Force and certain subsequent reinlorcements liad been sent away with a full establishment of officers, hut from now on a reduced number of commissioned ranks would be sent because promotions would he made by General B. C, Freyberg, V.C., from non-commissioned officers passed out from the officer cadet training unit established by him in Egypt. “This is only as it should be,” said Sir John Duigan. “It is only right that non-commissioned officers- Avho have undergone ’ intensive training for months and, in some cases, a year should be giyen an opportunity of going further. The men selected in Njfvy Zealand to proceed overseas as noncommissioned officers will be' of a high standard and have received a great deal of training here before leaving the country.”
