THE AID-TO-BRITAIN BILL. SENATOR NOW OPPOSES IT. “BRITAIN DEPENDS ON U.S.A.” (United Press Association—Copyright.) (Receiyed This Day, 10.5 a.m.) WASHINGTON, February 20. In the Senate on the debate on the Aid to Britain Bill, Senator Reynolds surprisingly announced that he would Vote against the measure. He was formerly favourable. To-day Senator Reynolds denied that American defence was dependent upon Britain. Instead Britain was dependent on the United States to maintain her world-wide Empire. Before American farmers and labourers were called on to finance Britain’s war effort wealthy industrialists anid landowners throughout the British Empire should be called on to strip themselves of their hunting lodges, castles, hounds, falcons, horses, clogs, jewels, cash and securities. ENTRY INTO THE WAR. PREDICTION BY ISOLATIONIST. “ NO ALTERNATIVE LEFT.” (Received This Day, 9.10 a.m.) WASHINGTON, February 20. Senator Nye, an isolationist, citing recent pro-war speeches in the Senate declared to the press that 30 Senators were at present ready to vote for declaration of war, and he predicted that the United States would enter the war in 30 days after the passage of the Lend and Lease Bill (Aid to Britain), owing to encountering “some incident which will leave no alternative but war.” GERMAN MILITARY VIEW. * ' COUNTER-ACTION NECESSARY. (Received This Day, 9.10 a.m.) ZURICH, February 20. Responsible military circles in Berlin, which have hitherto been reluctant to comment on the Aid-to-Britain Bill, now express the opinion that help will begin ito become effective by August, and is certain to have effect at the end pi the year. Therefore from the mili--tary viewpoint, military or diplomatic counter-action is necessary as soon as possible.
