OBITUARY.
MR RiQHARD EARL A very old resident of Timaru, %fv Richard Earl, died at his residence in (Browne Street on Sunday. Sir Earl, who was horn in Boughton, Northamptonshire, England, in 1851, came to New Zealand in the sailing vessel Peeress 06 yeays ago. He was first' employed bn building the railway line to Fair lie. Subsequently he was engaged in building roads in the neighbourhood! of Timaru and was one of the. men employed to build the Main School. In 1874 Mr Earl began an association with the Timaru Brewery Company that was to last for 52 years. He retired in 1926. Mr Earl’s chief .interests were his garden and Friendly Society work. About 64 years ago he joined the Loyal Timaru Lodge, M.U.1.0.0.F., and was still a member at the time of his death. He was one of the oldest Oddfellows in the South Canterbury district, and during his long association with tke Lodge he held every office possible* Mr Earl is survived 1 by his second wife and six sons and two daughters, one of the latter being Mrs A. Bush, of Ashburton.
