VICTIM OF RAIDERS.
MISCONCEPTION REMOVED.
STATEMENT BY A PASSENGER. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, This Day. ■ In order to remove current misconception, the Director of Publicity (Mr J. T. Paul) has issued the following statement: “Included in statements made to the press in Australia by survivors from ships which have fallen victims to enemy raiders was one attributed to hi high judicial officer who, because of his official capacity, would not allow his name to be published.’ This ‘high judicial officer’ was a passenger on the Rangitane and it has been assumed in some quarters that he was a member of the Judiciary of New Zealand. There was no Judge of the* Supreme Court or Magistrate or officer of any Lower Court in New Zealand on the ship when she was attacked. In view of the nature of the statements attributed to the officer and the assumption that he was a person holding a position of standing in New Zealand, this explanation is deemed necessary.”
