An Admiralty communique states: “One of our submarines, the Tuna, reported a spirited engagement by night , on the surface with a U-boat in enemy waters. Immediately on encountering’ the Tuna the U-boat made off at high speed, firing its aft gun. « The Tuna gave chase and opened fire with its four-inch gun. ' Tlie U-boat was certainly hit by one shell on the conning tower, but unfortunately this cannot he considered vitaldamage.
The Tuna chased the enemy for nearly an hour and broke off the engagement only when forced to dive by the appearance of enemy escort vessels which came to the rescue of the damaged U-boat. '
The Tuna had previously sunk an enemy armed tug by gunfire. In neither of these encounters did the Tuna sustain any damage or casualties.—British Official Wifeless.
