ANGRY QUEUES
BRITISH BUTCHERS BESIEGED.
LITTLE RELIEF FOR FORTNIGHT.
STATEMENT by the minister.
(United Press Association—Copyright./ (Received This Day, 9.45 a.m.) LONDON, January 7. Butchers are demanding measures to prevent angry queues from forming outside their shops as at the weekend, when thousands were not only short but meatless. The, Federation of Meat Traders is urging that the value of che ration be reduced in proportion to the actual meat available. One trader expressed , the‘ opinion that the, ration should immediately be reduced to 15d. Traders’, many of whom are receiving only half their allocations, expect the meat shortage to continue. The Minister of Food. (Baron Wooltan) said that the position regarding supplies of meat was admittedly difficult, and indicated that little relief can be expected for a fortnight. “If we find we cannot live up to one shilling and sixpence rations, we shall reduce it, but during what I believe to be a temporary shortage of meat I do not want to deprive the public of any more, than is- necessary,” said the Minister.
