FIRE IN A RUBBISH TANK BRIGADE CHIEF'S KEEN SENSE. When the Ashburton Volunteer Fire Brigade was returning fr,om a plantation fire near Allenton early this morning the pungent odour of burning rubber caused them to make s a run round the business area of the town. Nothing was discovered, however, hut the Superintendent, not satisfied that all was well, later made a thorough search for the cause of the smell. He found that a rubbish tank behind a shop in Moore Street had burst into flames. The tank had contained some rubber material.
