MINISTER RETIRES.
REV. W. F. EVAiN'S, OF WAKANUI
REV. A. D. KIRKLAND APPOINTED
The Rev. W. F. Evans announced his wish to relinquish the Wakanui Presbyterian charge from the end of January, at a meeting of tlie Wakanui Church last evening.
Mr Evans saidi he had been almost 40 years in the ministry, and' lie felt that the time was at hand when both he and Mrs Eivans must seek a quieter life. He had enjoyed! being at Wakanui.
Very high tributes were paid to Mr Evans by the office-bearers and those present. After much discussion it was decided' that as Mr Evans had helped Wakanui to ye gain its status, the Presbytery’s recommendation of tlie Rev. A. D. Kirkland as successor to Mr Evans be approved by Wakanui. In view of liis call to St. David’s Presbyterian 'Church, Christchurch, the Rev. D. D. MacLachlan formally handed over the Modern,torship, of Wakanui to thfe Rev. E. B. Stevenson, of Rakaia.
The moderator and elders were asked by Mr MacLachlan to prepare a minute of appreciation of the work of Mr Eivans and to present it at the next meeting of the Presbytery. The office-bearers paid a tribute to Mr MacLachlan for ! liis woyk as Moderator.
Mr Kirkland was for 12 years minister of Mayfield and is at present in charge of the Cust-'Oxford parish.
