A communique issued by headquarters at Cairo states: “In Egypt, the advanced elements of our troops, which successfully contained numerically superior enemy forces in the Bardia area, are being steadily reinforced and the position of the remnants of the beaten Italian Army in that area can now be regarded as precarious.

“The number of prisoners is mounting. So far 31,456, including 1626 officers, have actually been counted into prison-ers-of-war accommodation camps, while several are still in process of evacuation from the battle areas. British Official Wireless. j
