PERSONAL.
The Ashburton County Council stood in. silence to-day in sympathy withi Mr H. C. B. Withell (a member of the Council), whose mother difed recently.
Captain A. N. Grigg, M.P., who is overseas with the Second. New Zealand Expeditionary Force, is a member of the Ashburton County Council. The Council decided to-day to convey Christmas greetings to him by cable.
Mr George Wilson, youngest son of Mr and Mrs A. C. Wilson, has been successful fin preliminary examinations for a pilot, and has received notice to report to Levin for training in the Royal New Zealand Air Force on Sunday, January 19.
Misses J. Spillane and G. Macfarlane, teachers at the Ashburton East School, who have been transferred, were presented with a fountain pen and cup, saucer and plate respectively, by. the headmaster (Mr lS ; . G. Macfarlane) yesterday.
Advice has been received by the secretary of the Ashburton Fast Dental Clinic Committee (Mr G-. V. Furby) that Nurse M. McDonald has been appointed to assist in the Ashburton East area. She will take up duty on January, 21.
