SWIMMING.

METHVEN CLUB’S ANNUAL MEETING.

The annual meeting of the Methven Amateur Swimming Club was held on Tuesday, when Mr A. A. Gourley presided over a. satisfactory attendance.

The report stated that the club had enjoyed a successful season. The annual carnival was a financial and social success. The appointment of Mr Dorsa as caretaker during the school holidays was considered satisfactory. The children attending the health camp had been granted the use of the baths during their stay at Methven. Miss J.

Kilworth again won the Ashburton Centre Ladies’ championships. The club’s men’s championship was won by J. Burrows, and the ladies’ championship by Miss N. Campbell. The evening carnivals held by the club proved very .enjoyable and were well attended. Members serving with the forces 'are Messrs M. Paulin, M. Owens, R. J. L. Duff, It. Green, ,M. Holland, G. Dalton, N. Wootton, I. Wootton and E. Waddington. The balance-sheet showed receipts for £B9 3s 6d and payments £73 10s 3d.

The election of officers resulted: Patron, Mr T. S. Harrison; president, Mr R. Parsons; vice-presidents, Mr J. O. Riddell (senior) and Mr A. Cook (junior); secretary, Mr A. R. Gourley; treasurer and assistant-secretary, Mr N. Dewe; captain, Mr S. J. Stone; vice-captain, Miss B. Stone; delegates to Ashburton Centre, Messrs R. Parsons and A. R. Gourley (local) and E. Harrison (Ashburton); handicapper, Mr A. R. Gourley; committee, Messrs W. J. Owen, M. Prestney, A. Owen, Mrs C. Watson, Misses J. Kiiwoi’th, J. Campion and G. .Owen. It was decided to again appoint a caretaker for the school holidays and also to grant : the same facilities as last year to the children and staff of the Health Camp. It was agreed that all members serving with the armed forces be granted honorary membership. There was some discussion on the question of the use of the baths by nonmembers, the matter being left to tue committee.
