SUCCESSFUL RAID.
FORT IN ITALIAN SOMALILAND.
PRISONERS AND STORES TAKEN.

News of the renewal of offensive patrolling in the Kenya frontier districts, which was mentioned yesterday in a communique issued at Cairo and the announcement of a successful raid details of which are contained in a Nairobi communique, were received in London this morning. The scene of the raid was an important fort situated on the frontier of Italian Somaliland, at the junction of four roads useable in dry weather by motor transport: Announcing the raid the communique states: “Our forces included South African and Gold Coast units with armoured fighting • vehicles and artillery. The South African Air Force co-operat-ed and dropped 2£ tons of bombs. At least 25 Italians including several officers, and 50' colonial infantry were captured, with at least three guns, soirfe machine-guns and large quantities of stores and ammunition. Fifty enemy were killed. Our casualties being very slight.
“An air attack by enemy aircraft was driven off by our fighters. The enemy planes jettisoned their bombs on sighting our fighters. Early on Tuesday morning one. Caproni was brought down by our planes.”—British Official Wireless. \
