The Whangarei Racing Club’s spring meeting opened in glorious, though hot, weather, and there was a large attendance. The totalisator handled £14,953, against £16,097 10s last year, a decrease of '£1144 10s. Results: —

Maiden Stakes, of £100'; live furlongs.—2 (2) Onetea, 8.8 (Bond) 1, 6 (5) Bambury Cross, 8.8 2, 0 (4) Akanora 8.8 3. Won by half a length. Time 1.2.

Kensington Hack Handicap, of £130; six furlongs.—3 (4) Verulain, 8.2 (MeTavish) 1, ,1 (1) Kara' Avis 8.0 2, 11 (9) Lady Acushla 7.7 3. Won by half a length. Time, 1.14.
