GOOD PROGRESS.
RADIO TRAINING CLASS.
COURSE ENDS NEXT WEEK. Twenty-one young men intending to enter the Royal Air .Force attended the first radio training class held, in the Ashburton Post Office under the supervision of Mr J. Brown (supervisor of the telephone and. telegraph branches at the Post Office) during recent months. To-day about six are still in the class, which will conclude its training next week. Eight members have left for Levin Training School during the last fortnight, and some others have dropped out of the class through failure to pass medical examinations.
Mr Brown states that those who have attended regularly have made very satisfactory progress. The training is in sending and receiving morse messages and one pupil in the Ashburton class attained the. good speed of nine to 10., words a minute. Several others have put up a speed of from five to six a minute. The speed that is desired l is 12 words a minute, but when in a training school those who* can do ovier six, said Mr Brown, will make rapid strides and should have no difficulty in reaching that figure. Although no* definite information is available, it is expected that a; class containing practically all new pupils will be commenced at the Post Office about the end, of next month. ,
