SUCCESSFUL YEAR.

COUNTY SCOTTISH SOCIETY.

THE ELECTION OF OFFICERS. t Tlio Ashburton County Scottish Society lias completed the most successful year in its history, stated tho report presented at the annual meeting last evening. The membership was almost double that of the previous year, there being 134 financial members on the register. The year’s activities were commenced with a most successful Burns Night when a record number were present. The principal speaker was Mr Robert Spiers. The Ingleside activities were of an unique nature, being opened by a concert party from the Christchurch Scottish Society, who later in the year paid a return visit. The Timaru Scottish Society also paid a visit bringing with them another first class concert party. Halloween, the filial function for the year, took the form of a children’s entertainment during the first half of the evening. After a lapse of several years visits to Tuarangi Home were resumed and the concert was heartily appreciated by the inmates and the staff. Members also paid a visit to the Timaru Scotish Society where the concert party was again received with great enthusiasm. The attendance at the weekly dance had been well maintained and the healthy state of tho society’s finances was solely attributable to these functions. The election' of officers resulted:— Patrons, Messrs A. Brown and H. Sinclair ; chief, Mr T. McG regor'.j chieftains, Messrs E. G. Craighead and H. R. McConachio; council, Messrs G. Chilton, S. J. 'Williamson, J. M. Thomson, H. Rollinson, W. J. Patterson, B. Soutar, W. Shaw, and. AY. Tate; masters of ceremonies, (Messrs Chilton, McGregor, and Tate; pipers, Pipe-Major H. Wilson, Sergeant F. Tait, and Piper p. Robertson; accompanists, Mrs H. J. Chapman and Miss O. AVatts; secretary, Mr J. Turnbull; treasurer, Mr J. H. Bruce; auditor, Mr J. Reid; delegates to the North Canterbury Piping arid Dancing Association, Messrs Turnbull and McGregor.
