COUNTY TOTAL OF £3997.
COLLECTION'S IN RIDINGS. The Ashburton County total in the big patriotic appeal for £BOOO has reached £3997 Is 7d. ■ The latest lists of donations are £9 12s from Hinds, £SO from Alford Forest and £2831 3s 8d from Rakaia. Dolan £1 each) J > MeAnulty 10s. “The amount'paid in represents 40.3 per cent.„ of the .quota,’’ said the County Clerk in a report to the Council to-day. -The following shows the ridings and -localities -from which the money was . raised, but as a iiumbei of committees adjoining ridings, the exact riding totals shown might not bo decimate:— Ashburton: Eiffelton £328 10s Jd, Waterton £173 19s—total £502 9s 9d; (quota £772). Mount Hutt (£1698). Mount Somers : Ruapuna-Carew £166 19s 1 6d, Mayfield' £234 9s 6d, AlfordForest £50—£431 9s; (£926). Rangitata: Hinds £lO3 14s Id, Lowcliffe £135 15s, Ealing £B7 35—£326 12$ Id; (£1157). ' South Rakaia: Rakaia £463 10s Bd, Chertsey £207 2s 7d, Pendarves £49, Rokeby £76 3s, Dorie £137 14s 6d—£933 10s 9d; (£1235). Upper Ashburton: Winchmore £294 4s 6d, Lagmhor-Wcsterfield £172 8s Ashburton Forks-Greenstreet £l2B 13s 6d—£595 6s (£1157). AVakanui: Wakanui £620 19s, Fairton £46 9s 6d, Seafield £3l 6s, Dromore £3B 4s, Pendarves £32—£768 18s 6d; (£772). Totals £3578 6s Id has paid the sum of £l2O direct to the Patriotic Council through Methven; Lauriston has collected £B2 for South Rakaia Riding and £37 for Mount Hutt Riding, hut has nob yet paid in. No returns arc yet available from Lismore -Maronan, Methven, Mount Somers, Springburn, Staveley or Bushside.
“As treasurer for the Ashburton zone, I have also received £4lB 15s 6d from. Tinwald and £1750 from the Ashburton Borough.” It was pointed out that in lists already published £122 credited to the Mount Somers Riding had been collected in the Rangitata Riding. On behalf of the Canterbury Patriotic Executive, Mr H. J. Crothers said he would like to thank the people of the town, and country for the magnificent way they had been responding to the patriotic appeal. There had been a great amount of work clone by a large number of people in the area and the Executive was wry grateful for the l effort that was being put forward.
