THE WEATHER.
CHILLY CONDITIONS TO-DAY. Dull and chilly conditions were experienced in Ashburton to-day and during the early part of the morning a little rain fell. At 9 o’clock' one point had been registered at the Domain weather station.
The maximum temperature yesterday was 77.4 degrees, which was on a par with the' high reading of 77.6 degrees on the previous day. The minimum reading for yesterday was 49.2. The barometer stood, at 31.1 inches tiiis morning.
TO-DAY’S FORECAST.

The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather:A shallow depression lies across central New Zealand and separated anticyclones are located to the north-east and south.
The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows :
Light to moderate variable winds. Weather dull at first with scattered drizzle or rain but improving to-mor-row. Temperatures moderate. Seas slight.
