PLEA OF GUILTY.
FALSE DECLARATION MADE (Special to the “ Guardian ”) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. In the Magistrate’s Court yesterday William George Guy, a labourer, aged 39, was charged with making a false declaration to obtain a marriage certificate at Oxford on June 12.
Detective N. Thompson said Guy had entered his name as William John Kennaird, and had stated that he was a widower.
A statement by accused, which the detective read, said that he married Marion Violet Andrews on December 6, 1923, at Ashburton. There were tour children. When Guy’s wife left him on April 6, 1928, the children were committed to the care of the State. Guy said he changed his name to avoid being sued for the maintenance of his children. He met Emily Adelaide Martha Dohrman under his assumed name of Kennaird, and so retained it when he went through a form of marriage with her. At that time he had not heard of his wife lor five years, and up till the present time he still had no word of her-
Detective Thompson said the police had not been able to trace the woman.
Guy pleaded guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. He was allowed bail on his own recognisance of £2o, and ordered to report to the police as directed.
