WINTER BILLETING.
PROBLEM FOP. BRITISH ARMY. LONDON, December 1. The War Office has revealed the heavy burden the public are asked to bear in providing winter quarters for the largest army ever stationed in ißritain. The army is hundred's of thousands gieater than was expected, as a result of the evacuation from France. Existing. barracks accommodate 250,000 men, and another 200,000 can be accommodated in, new hutted camps, but the remainder, totalling about 1,000,000 must be lodged in requisitioned buildings. The billets problem is easily solved during the summer, as many troops are under canvas, but 500,000 must be transferred from tents to' winter quarters, and yet be immediately ready for action.
