THE SALVATION ARMY.
MANY ACTIVITIES YESTERDAY. Adjutant S. Smith and Mrs Smith, of Christchurch, conducted the morning and afternoon services at the Ashburton Salvation Army yesterday. The Bible address in the morning was given by Mrs Smith and four new Salvationists were enrolled, as members of the local corps.
A number of musical and elocutionary items were given by the Sunday School scholars in the afternoon, and Adjutant Smith presented a further group of prizes won by young people for attendance at Sunday morning services. The St. Kilda Municipal and Ashburtoik Silver Bands paraded with the Army Band from the railway station to the Salvation Army Citadel in the evening, and all the Bands attended the evening service conducted by Major R. E. Liddell. The songsters sang “Sun of My Soul,” and the Male Voice Party, “He Cares.” The Army Band contributed a selection with the theme “Peace,” and Adjutant and’Mrs Smith sang a duet. The St. Kilda Band played the hymn “St: dement.” ‘ A party of young people held a picnic at Temuka to-day.
