THE KING’S BIRTHDAY. TELEGRAPH OFFICE HOURS. The hours of attendance at the Ashburton Post and Telegraph Office on Monday (King’s Birthday holiday) will be as follows:—< Telephono ’Exchange: Open continuously. Telegraph Office: 9 a.m. 4 p.m. (Present telegrams at Telegraph Office, first floor). Other branches: Closed all day.
The arrangements for to-day are: — The Post Office will be open between the hours of 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. for the transaction of telegraph and postal business, including the sale of postal notes. Ordinary telegram rates will apply for telegrams exchanged between permanent offices provided, delivery by message-boy is not required; otherwise the urgent rate will be charged. A counter delivery of correspondence will also be made.
Street receivers are to be cleared at 6 p.m. and mails for despatch on the King’s Birthday will close at 8 p.m. All mails received will be sorted tip to 8 p.m. •
Mails for the North close at Ashburton as follows: —
Daily at 7 a.m. Monday 0n1y—4.30 a.m., 10.30 a.m.; late fee 10.55 a.m; guards van 11.10 a.m. 2.45 p.m.; late fee 3.10 p.m.; guards van 3.37 p in. Tuesday to Friday (both included): —10.30 a.m., late fee at Post Office 10.55 a.m., late fee at Station, 11.10 a.m.; 5 p.m., late fee at Post Office 5.25 p.m., late fee at Station 5.56,p.m. Saturday only—lo.3o a.m., lat 4 fee at Post Office 10.55 a.m.; late fee at Station 11.10 a.m.; and at 12.30 p.m. Wednesday and Friday 0n1y—2.45 a.m., late fee at Post Office 3.10 p.m.; late fee at Station, 3.37 p.m.
Monday to Friday (inclusive), 8 p.m (letters only) Christchurch.
Mails for the South close as follows :
Monday to* Saturday—9.3o a.m., late fee at Post Office 9.55 a.m., late fee at Station, 10.4 a.m. Wednesday and Friday only—l.2o p.m., late fee at Post Office 1.45 p.m., late fee at Station at 2.6 p.m.
Monday to Friday (inclusive) 8 p.m. (letters only), Timaru, Oamaru, Dunedin and south of Dunedin. Air Mail! Services. Trans-Tasman air-mail service, closes at the Ashburton Post Office at 7 a.m., Tuesday, November 26. Trans-Pacific air-mail service closes at the Ashburton Post Office at 7 Thursday, December 5. Air mails within New Zealand close at the Ashburton Post Office; North bound—Monday to Friday inclusive, at 8 p.m.; South bound—Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7 a.m. and Monday and Wednesday at 8 p.m. Overseas Mails (Outward). Mails for Australia and countries via Australia will close at the ‘Ashburton Post Office at 7 a.m., Tuesday, November 20. .. Mails for overseas will bo closed and forwarded as opportunity offers. Christmas Mails. It is not possible this year to furnish closing dates of Christmas mails for overseas, but the following information is supplied:—America, November (last week) ; Australia, mid-December. Early posting is recommended in view of the uncertainty of transit time.
