APPEAL FOR CARE.

PROTECTION OF NATIVE BUSH. (Per Press Association). AUCKLAND, November 21. The protection of native bush and the preservation of the country’s birds were matters of permanent concern to the people of New Zealand, said the Minister for Internal Affairs (the Hon. VY. E. Parry). The coming of summer was a time, lie said, when the community was .justified in entertaining fear of scrub fires which, if some past experiences were taken as a criterion, would either threaten or destroy some of the most beautiful bush and fern scenery of the Dominion.

The average New Zealander was a lover of his country’s bush, and he would make an earnest appeal to all to help, in the approaching dry season, to protect, the bush, which was the home of native birds.

Mr Parry referred to the recent arrangement between tlio Minister for Lands the (Hon. F. Langstone) and the Wellington Automobile Association for the appointment of members of the association as inspectors to help in the protection of bush and other native scenery. “Members of the automobile association in New Zealand,” the Minister said, “are in a. splendid position to assist greatly in this fine protective work. This further voluntary community effort now to be undertaken is valuable, and the country will benefit by it.”
