PRODUCTION IN CANADA BUILDING SHIPS FOR BRITAIN. (United Press Association —Copyright.) OTTAWA, November 20. Mr C. D. Minister for Supply and Munitions, said in the House of Commons that negotiations had been completed for the construction in Canada of 1-8 large merchant ships for Britain. Reviewing Canada’s industrialisation in the last ]4 months, Mr Howe forecast that the peak in production would be reached in the next eight months. The production of aeroplane engines depended on whether the necessary machine tools were obtainable from the United States.
He also announced the appointment of a. Requirements Board to ensure priority for war needs. He added that the Machine Tools Controller had banned the production of new models of vehicles, rail-cars, etc., to ensure that production of dies and tools was not diverted munitions. Canada would shortly be making practically every type’ of gun. Substantial production of tanks was expected early in 1941, and the production of shells was being increased to 2,000,000 a month.
