VALEDICTORY SOCIAL.
PRESENTATION AT WILLOWBY A farewell social was tendered to Mr Hubert Hayman, of Willowby, on Friday evening, on the eve of his departure for Christchurch. Theda* was a lairge and representative gathering. Mr Hayman was presented with a travelling rug. Miss Quigly was presented with a Victorian posy. The Rev. W. W : . Avery, who presided, expressed regret that- the district was losing Mr Hayman, who had taken an active part in, this Methodist Circuit affairs and in district life. Mr Bishop spoke of Mr Hay mam’s woirk in connection with the South Canterbury Bible Class Union, Local Preachers’ Association, and leadership schools. Other speakers wpre Mrs Chapman (choir), Messrs G. JI. B. Lill (Circuit local preachers), O. Lill, B. Lill (local young men’s Bible Class), and Allan Chapman (personal friends). A programme of music and elocution with games and competitions was enjoyed, the following items being given : Pianoforte solo, Miss. *P. Lattimorc; vocal solos, Miss E. Lill, Mr A. Chapman,. Mr J. T'avlor ; vocal duet Mi ssqs M. M. and H. Ri. Lill; recitations, Mrs 8. H. Lill. Shppor and the singing of “Auld Lang Syne” brought an enjoyable evening to a close.
