WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.
THE METHVEN BRANCH. Mrs E. S. Vaughan, presidled at the monthly meeting of the Methven Women’s Institute. An invitation to the Staveley Institute birthday party was accepted. The Red Cross .Society offered the use of its shop for the sale of disabled soldiers goods Mrs J. F. Stone read an interesting letter from the Institute link at Methvtan (Scotland), also a poem on “Success.” Mrs Regan (vice-president)* gave a report- on the recent meeting of the Federation at Hinds. Being “single members” day,’ Miss D. Adams took charge of the meeting and welcomed visiting members. The motto “Better Late Than Never” was given by Mrs J. Tfsmple. Miss M. Hampton and .Mrs P. Stevens were in, charge of the sales table, the amount collected being £5 5s 6d. Mrs Shearer was judge of the button hole competition which was won by Mrs O. Stevens. Miss M Chambers gave a reading from Miss Eileen ©uggaii’s poems. ' The offer of Mrs L-. Vaughan’s residence for the annual garden party ivas accepted. Mrs Knox Cook, of Lyndkurst, gave a demonstration in smocking. | Competitions, judged hv Mesdames G. Johns and K. Cook, resulted:— Bloom/Mrs A. W. Brenner and Mrs Johns (equal) 1, Mrs Vaughan and Mrs B. Dorsa (equal) 2, Mrs L. Vaughan 3. Egg cup flowers: Mrs Laurence 1. Mrs Melville 2, Mrs Dolan, 3. Butter sponge: Miss M. Chambers and Mrs Lawrence (equal) 1, Mrs Dorsa and Mrs D. Chambers (equal) 2, Mrs L. Vaughan 3. Mies L. L. Richards sang two solos, Mrs A. S. Kennedy being accompanied^.
