TENDER ACCEPTED.

PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH ALTER-

ATIONS.

MODERN ORGAN TO BE INSTALLED

The Board of Managers of St. Andrew’s .Presbyterian Church decided last evening to accept the tender of Mr E. E. Smith, at £2330, for the carrying out of alterations to St. Andrew’s Church. The work is expected to begin very shortly and should take .between three and four months to complete. The plan for the alterations includes the installation of a new organ. To provide accommodation for it and a choir vestry and new managers’ room, additions will be made to the back of the bidding. The choir will be shifted from the centre to the southeast wing and the area vacated will provide for extra seating. Two rooms at the back will be added to the actual church space to accommodate a com-munion-table, elders’ chairs, baptismal font and lectern. A slight amendment has been made to this original plan because of a change in the position of the .organ. Arrangements for the purchase of a new organ valued at £1260 have been made with Messrs Lawton and Osbourne, of Auckland, and Aberdeen. Tho instrument will be of modern design, having two> manuals, lb speaking stops, and the usual accessories. It will have a detached console and it is hoped that it will have electric action. The organ will have 823 pipes. It may be sometime before tho organ can be assembled and installed, but the work is scheduled to he pompleitixt by not later than September of next year.

A communion table, and baptismal font have already ba?n donated hv supporters of the church, and it has just been learned that the architect (Mr W. Thomas) and Mrs Thomas have offered a pulpit. While the church is being renovated the electrical wiring will have to bo changed, and it is possible that an improved system of lighting may be installed.

For a brief period while the alterations are being carried out it will be necessary to hold church services in St. Andrew’s Hall.
