Turkey and Britain were studying the Balkans. “While thinking of our own welfare,” said Mr Inonu, “we are loyal to our friends and to our obligations, which are unshakeable. Foreign relations with Russia have gone through a critical period, but have taken a friendly turn. The Soviet policy in the face of a dark world is one of greatest security. Wo have decided to act for the interest of the nation, not harming anyone. The country is financially sound in the midst of a world economic crisis.”
