MISSIONARY UNION.

ASHBURTON BAPTIST WOMEN. The monthly meeting of tho Ashburton Baptist Women’s Missionary Union was held on Thursday afternoon. In the absence of the president -(Mrs Fktt) through illness, Mrs Beck presided over a. good attendance.. The main business was the receiving ol tlie annual report and financial statement of tbe- Union as presented at tbe Annual Assembly of tho Baptist Church recently held in Dunedin. Mrs Tucker read extracts from the Canterbury district presented at the annual meeting held at Springdon on September 10. It was stated that both these reports gave cause for great thankfulness to God for His blessing on the efforts of the women of the Baptist Church in New Zealand. Membership had increased from 21-57 lbst year to 2203 and finance received, last year £2178, this year £2220. The Ropehoklers had also done their part, contributing the sum of £69 5s sd. '

The meeting closed with, tho singing of the Doxology and pronouncing of the Benediction.

PRESBYTERIANS AT MAYFIELD. . . . • . •• / The monthly meeting of the. Mayfield Presbyterian Missionary Union was held on Thursday afternoon, when the president' (Mrs J. S. Freeman) presided over an excellent- attendance. Mesdames G. Frost and Marsh were welcomed as new members. Missionary letters were read from Mrs Farr, of Auckland, and the Rev. Mr McD'iarmid, Superintendent of Missions. It w 7 as decided to send £lO to the Dominion Treasurer for the budget scheme of the church.

It was reported that £8 5s was made at a garden party held at Mrs G. J. Murdoch’s and the Busy Bees’ stall had realised £4 6s 9d. A missionary play was read by Mesdames O. Sewell, H. R. Tasker and G. J. Murdoch.

After the business, a social hour was field, when Mrs W. Elmslie was the guest of honour. Mrs Freeman spoke of Mrs Elmslie’s great work work for her church and wished her evej,;y happiness in her future home in Christchurch. The men presented Miss Elmslie with a shoulder spray if freezias and lily-of-the-valley. .Mrs Corbett also eulogised Mrs Elmslio’s splendid qualities; Mrs D. Johnston presented the guest with a crystal rose bowl, on behalf of all members, together with the best wishes of all.

Afternoon tea brought a pleasant afternoon to a close.
