ST. JAMES THEATRE. “BALALAIKA.” Magnificent direction, an outstanding musical score that is superbly sung and played, a cast such as Metro-Gold-wyn-Mayer can and haye gathered —< all plus a story crammed with romance, comedy, diram a and sentiment —that is a brief. pen sketch of “Balalaika,” starring Nielson Eddy and newcomer Hop a Massey. Hero indeed is superb entertainment —a production which has every ingredient that makes for mass appreciation. Nelson Eddy’s role as a Cossack fits him like a glove—nothing he has ever done —and that includes his role ini “Naughty Marietta” —can hold a candle to this performance and his magnificent voice is balm to the ear. Ilona Massey toe is something to look forward to, while Charles Buggies and Frank Morgan have tail-or-made roles —and what enjoyment both they and the audience get from them. The season definitely, closes on Wednesday.
