» THE EAST ASHBURTON CLUB.

DECISIONS OF ANNUAL MEETING.

Although handicapped by petrol restrictions and the outbreak of war the last season proved successful in every way stated the report presented at the annual meeting of the East Ashburton Amateur Swimming Club last evening. In the absence of the president (Mr J. Hardie) the chairman of the committee (Mr G. Bowman) presided oyer a large attendance.

The * credit balaarce improved during the season from £24 16s 9d to £32 19s 4d. Trophies were won as follow: Barnett Cup, Miss E. Harrison; Nicoll Cup, N. McCrea; Curtis Cup, G-. Glossop; Bowman Cup, N. McCrea; R. S. White Cup, M. Luscombe; (Newton Cup, East Ashburton No. 2; Hunt Shield, O. Ibell; Hardy Shield, M. Hampton; It was decided that letters of cheer be sent to Mesdames H. Flatman and F. Rose (who are in hospital) and Mi E. Parkin.

It was agreed unanimously that Mr A. Thomson , who is relinquishing active office in the club after 18 years, of splendid service, be elected a life member.

Mr A. Thomson gave notice of motion as follows: (1) That only lady swimmers, oyer 18 years of age on November 1, be eligible for Barnett Cup events; (2) That a cup for lady swimmers, under 18 years on November 1, be purchased. The motion was adopted. Thanks were expressed to Mess.'3 N. McOrea and G. Glossop for donating a cup for junior lady swimmers lor annual competition. It was decided that all members in the fighting forces be honorary members for the duration of the war. Mr A. Thomson welcomed Mrs J. Hunt senr., to the meeting and spoke of her untiring work for the club since its inception in 1922. Election of Officers. The election of officers resulted:— l Patron, Mrs J. Hunt, senr., and Mr W. 6. Kerr; president, Mr G. Bowman; vice-presidents, Messrs S. Groves N. Corbett, J. Hunt snr„, R. S. White, A. A. Oliver, H. Money, E. Parkin, F. Johnson, J. Grice, T. L. Crooks and Mrs E. B. Newton; secretary, Mr Roi Flatman; treasurer, Mr E. Harrison; auditor, Mr R. H. Loy; commitee, Mesdames H. Flatman, W. Holland, L. Whinham, Messrs S. Childs, M. Thompson, G, Glossop, H. Thomson, O. Rudd; club captain, Mr N. McCrea; vice-captain, Mr H. Thomson; starters, Messrs G. Glossop and E. Harrison; handicappers, S. Thompson, C. Day, and G. Day.
