ONE NATION
BRITAIN AND UNITED STATES.
ALLIANCE IS NOT ENOUGH.
SUGGESTION BY AN LM.P
(United Press Association—Copyright.) (Received This Day, 12.33 p.m.) LONDON, October 15.
In an article in “The Daily Express” Mr Wedgwood, M.P., recommends not only a British and United States alliance, but a ; complete union with one sovereign and one parliament, and also a common Foreign Office, Colonial Office, Defence Service, Supreme Court, free trade and stable currency.
Mr Wedgewood says: “An alliance is not enougln One Union Government can alone give security in the long struggle before us. No state, not even Britain, can hope to recover alone. Left alone all seem certain to sink intobarbarism and anarchy. Many people are prejudiced against Americans and many more subconsciously sympathise with the totalitarian. The working class realises, as others must, that as the war goes on all must become poorer and increasingly need a great and powerful state to feed, save and restore them.”
