BLOOMS AT MARONAN. WOMEN’S INSTITUTE’S DISPLAY The October meeting of the Maronan Women’s Institute was held in the (Maronan Hall, Mrs G. Seales presiding over a good attendance. The meeting opened with the singing of the New Zealand National Anthem, with Mrs Arker at the piano. The motto for tlie month was ‘Do your best but be glad if others do better.” After the business was finished a flower show was held. Mrs Ghidings (Ealing) judged the flowers, for which she was accorded a vote of thanks. It was decided to send Christmas parcels to the men overseas.
The competitions for the month were as follow: Men’s socks, Mrs J. Davidson 1, Miss B. Davidson 2, Mrs L. Galletly 3. Marmalade, Mrs H. Galletly I, -Miss P. Galletly 2, Mrs J. Whiting 3. Bowl of flowers, Mrs A. Sparrow 1, Miss A. Whiting 2, Mrs H .Black 3. Bloom, Mrs G. Scales 1, Miss B. Davidson 2, Mrs J. Davidson 3. Show Prizes. The show prize list was as follows: — Vase daffodils: Mrs G. Scales 1, Mrs J. Whiting 2, Miss P. Galletly 3. Vase of mixed floweirs: Mrs H. Black 1, Miss J. 'Gilmore 2, Mrs H. Galletly 3.
