A civic farewell gathering to the Governor-General, Lord Galway, and Lady Galway will be held in Christchurch on. the levelling of October 31. Their Excellencies will visit Christchurch on October 30, and will remain until the morning of November 2.
Mr C. L. Crowley, representing New Zealand Paper Mills, Ltd., is touring Mid and South Canterbury and investigating possible sou,rcics of supply of waste materials.
Mr IH. A. Bruce (secretary of the Scaffold Miniature Rifle Club) was presented with a tea-set by the chairman (Mr A. Bcnnison) on. the occasion of his marriage. The presentation took place at a cards evening.
The appointment of Mr H. F. Bntland, Registrar of the Court of Arbitration, to the position of secretary of the Canterbury Employers’ Association was announced yesterdiay. Mr Butland, who will start his new duties on October 22, takes tjie position left vacant by the appointment of Mr I>. I. Macdonald as secretary of the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Association.
