The Ail’ Ministry has appointed l Air Marshal Sir Charles Port.nl as additional member of the Air Couincil, and also' successor to Silt Cyril Newall as Chief of the Air Staff. Air Marshal Sir Richard Peirce succeeds Sir Charles Portal as Air Officer Commanding in Chief of the Bomber Command.
As Chief of the Bomber Command, Sir Charles Portal lias been the principal organiser of tire incessant successful raids by Royal Air Force bomber forces on targets in. Germany and the occupied territories, and the heavy attacks on German invasion liases. Ho served with distinction in -the last war. In 1934-35 lie was Officer Commanding Aden, and in 1936-37 instructor at the Imperial Defence College. In 1937 he was appointed Director of Organisation at the Air Ministry, and since last year lie has been Air Member for Personnel on the Air Council.
