Regal came from nearly last, with a round to go to Avin the Methven Oup by half a- length from Zincali. Regal began from 36 yards behind 1 and Avith the exception of Privateer Avho broke early, he Avas last when four furlongs had been covered. Three . furlongs from home he began to bridge the gap. A furlong from home Zincali caught Hapy Loeanda, then Regal came on the scene and in a- good finish Avon by half a length from Zincali, with Happy Loeanda a similar distance away third.

Three furlongs from home they drew away front the rest of the field and were hard at it for the remainder of the journey. Pleasant Guy stayed on a shade better. Fragment took the lead at the end of two furlongs and was followed past the stand by Bronze Eagle and Tokalon. Going along the back Pleasant Guy dashed up on the outside »of Bronze Eagle, the pair going on from Fragment and Tonioro. In a thrilling finish Pleasant Guy had a neck advantage from Bronze Eagle at the post. Fragment was six lengths back third. Times, 1i.29 4-5, 3.30, 3.30. 3-5. HAWKE'iS BAY JOCKEY CLUB.
