NAZI TROOPS ACROSS SPAIN.
/' QUESTION BEING DISCUSSED. LONDON, October 3. The correspondent of “The Times” on the Italian frontier says well-in-formed circles in Rome state that the Spanish Minister for the Interior (Sen--01; Suner), who has been conferring w'ith Signor Mussolini after visiting Berlin, exhaustively discussed the possibility of allowing Italian and German troops free passage across Spain in order to attack Gibraltar. It is expected that Spain’s role in t the conflict will he announced at the week-end. From tho comment by the Italian publicist (Dr. Gayda), it is assumed that Spain at present will remain nonbelligerent, though she has obviously agreed to closer economic co-operation with the Axis. Meanwhile Herr Hitler and Signor Mussolini have met at Brennero, and much speculation has been created by their meeting. The meeting was not officially announced until after it had ended.
The dictators wore accompanied by their Foreign Ministers, but reports differ as to whether they were present at the discussion.
