QUEER NOISES OVER CITY.
LONDON. September 27. New forms of defence and attack were used in the past few night laics on London. Citizens, aware of .new strange noises, have heard thunderous explosions disintegrating into staccato cracks high in the heavens, also a muffled rattling which they dubbed “carpet slipper machine-guns.” there has also been a curious flat roar, something which seemingly strikes an imaginary ceiling miles up then jumps clamorously along the top of t le s \VThese queer noises actually are caused by new types of weapons or well tried weapons adapted to new uses. -i w types of shells, whose composition and effect is a secret, are being used. Now and more elaborate types ot flaming onions were also noticoc. in recent nights. German surprises include parachute bombs described ns shiny and cigar-shaped, appaien > constructed of an aluminium alloy which float down gently and explode after landing.
