WOMEN'S INSTITUTES.

W! LLOWBY-EIFFELTON GROUP.

The Willowby-Eiffelton Women’s Institute held the monthly meeting in the Willow by Hall. Miss M. M. Lill presided oyer a good 1 attendance. Mrs S'. P. Taylor read the motto, “We are never too old to learn.” A prayer for peace was read. Miss Joan Bratley was appointed to represent the Institute at the Tinwald birthday party. Ain invitation to attend the Willowby daffodil day was received. A letter of cheer was directed to be sent to Mrs Prendergast.

Sick visitors appointed for the month were Mrs Soal and Mrs Mackay. The roll call for the afternoon was “Exchange of plants.” A sum of 5s was donated to the Maori Institute fund. It was decided toi donate a gift of something new from something old to the refugee fund, these woollen articles to be the competition feature for the October meeting. Mrs Henry Grossman gave the monthly talk on, Famous Women, choosing as her subject Miss E. M. Nutsey. As the group meeting will be held at Willowby in the afternoon of the October meeting, it was decided to hold a short business session at 2 p.m. on October 24. The entertainment of the group meeting will he provided by the local Institute. An auction for Federation; fund's will also be held. Mrs Knox and Mrs Harvey will be the Willowby hostesses. Mrs Tasker, of Ruapuna, gave an demonstration of floral work.

Competitions resulted: 'Daintiest howl of spring flowers (2): Miss R. Dili 1, Miss Bratley and Miss M. Dill (equal) 2, Mrs Maginn,e,ss 3. Bottled fruit (6): Mrs Maginness 1, Mrs Knox 2, Miss J. Bratley 3. Plain print apron: Mrs H. Grossman 1, Mrs R. d. Chapman 2, Mrs Knox 3. Specimen bloom (14): Miss Joan Bratley 1, Mrs Pratley 2, Miss M. Dili "3. Airmen’s mittens, donated to Red Cross (10): Miss R. H. Dili, Miss Jean Taylor 2, Mrs R. J. Chapman 3.

The hostesses were Mesdames J. Taylor, S. H. Lill, L. Pratley and Miss J. Taylor. Mi's R. J. Chapman was in charge of the soldiers’ parcels department.

FUNCTION AT TINWALD. The Tinwakl. Town Hall was crowded last evening when the Women’s Institute held its ninth birthday party. The president (Mrs Lundy) welcomed visitors and proceedings opened with the National Anthem.

A concert was given by Miss A. Ruddock’s party, items being as follow: — 1 Irish Jig, Noeline' and Ken Read ; vo--cal duet, Alison Cowles and Kathleen Robinson- monologue, Miss J. Rattray : piano solo, Mrs C. Robertson; vocal duet, Miss W. Bruce and Mi K. Perry; vocal solo, Alison Cowles; tap dance, Ke,n Read ; story without words Misses Coleen, Mclnness and Miss M. Marshall; violin solos. Dr. N. B. H. Fulton; vocal solo, Miss W. Bruce; sketch, Mrs K. Perry and Miss Ruddock ; song and dance, Noeline. Read : vocal solo, Bobby Travers • monologue, Mr O. Fantham • vocal solo, Mr Perjry. After the concert, greetings were received from the Hampstead, WillowbvEiffolton, Lowcliffe and Fairfield Institutes. Bouquets wore, presented to Mrs Bayliss (who is the oldest member of the Tinwakl Institute), Mrs 'Lundy, and Miss Ruddock.

Supper was served and a dance followed. Mr A. Simpson was MX'., and Mr R. Day bourn supplied the music.
