WOMEN’S INSTITUTES.
MEETING AT HAMPSTEAD. The monthly meeting of the Hampstead Women’s Institute was held in the Memorial Hall yesterday, when there was a good attendance. The president (Mrs H. Flatman) presided. Two new members wore welcomed. The motto for the month was read hv Mrs C. S. Hawkey. Mesdames H. Housten and E. Childs were appointed delegates to the halfyearly council meeting to- he held at Hinds on October 9. Mesdames Cook and Green were appointed delegates to tjhe Tinwald birthday party on September 26. It was agreed to give a donation and parcels to the Leper Fund. It was decided to take goods to the value of £2 from disabled soldiers at Christchurch.
The roll-call, “A Good Shampoo,” was well responded to.
Mrs M. A. Constable was nominated for the Dominion Council: -i ~ Mrs McEachrrn nominated members of the concert next Wednesday evening in aid of the local Red Cross.
Mr IS. G. Macfarlane gave a very interesting talk on child psychology. Competitions resulted: Bowl of anemones, Mrs H. White 1, Mrs W. Thompson 2, Mrs H. Rogers 3 ; premier bloom, Mrs W. Thompson 1, Mrs J. Hunt senr. 2, Mrs Harrison senior 3; fancy cushion, Mrs E. Childs 1; best use of lib flour, Mrs J. Hunt jun. 1, Mrs S. Wilson 2. The hostesses were Mesdames Dolphin, Chilton. McGregor, Weeks and McQuarters.
The Drama Circle. The September meeting of the Hampstead Drama Cirle, was held at the residence of Mrs Dolphin.' There was an attendance of about 20 members . It was reported that practice was going ahead for the play for the Red Cross concert next Wednesday. It was decided to hold the annual effort for funds on November 2C-, the evening to consist of plays and sketches. After a play-reading by three juniors supper was served and Mrs Reece thanked Mrs Dolphin for the use of her home.
THE WAKANUI MEETING. The Wakanui Women’s Institute, at the monthly meeting held in the Wakanui Old Settlers’ Memorial Hall, decided to hold the annual spring flower show at the next monthly meeting. 'Miss G. Bullerick (vice-president) presided. Competitions resulted Bloom, Miss G. Butter ick and Mrs Frampton (equal) 1, Mrs Kingsbury and Miss C. Frampton (equal) 3. Posy, Miss C. Frampton 1, Mrs Kingsbury 2, Miss Butterick 3. Bran Biscuits, Mrs Kingsbury 1. Mrs Hendrie 2, '-Miss Butterick 3. Table centre, Mrs Kingsbury 1, Miss Butterick 2, Miss Froth croc 3. Gifts were received for the Lady Galway Guild. The hostesses were Mrs Kingsbury and Mrs C. Brand.
