Four separate instances of sugar having been placed in petrol tanks liavrf been reported, two at Whakatane, one at Taneatua and one at Ohope. The damage to the vehicles concerned is serious, necessitating costly repairs. Tn one case the tank was removed and, although heated and boiled, the coating of sugar, which, with the action of the spirit, had assumed the appearance of cement, could not be removed, and it was found necessary to open the tank and scrape the substance from the metal.
