SHEARERS’ PAY.

RATES FOR COMING SEASON. THE'COMMITTEE’S DECISION. (Per Pres 3 Association). . .. .. WELLINGTON, This Day. The special committee under the shearers and shed-hands’ award has fixed the following rates of pay for the coming season :—■

■Shearing by machine, not- less than £1 10s 6d per 1001 with rations: shearing by hand, not less than £1 13s per 100 with rations. Where shearers find their own rations ah allowance of four shillings a day shall be paid.

Stud sheep and hogget yams carry a rate of one-aml-n-half, other rams double the ordinary rate. .- Rates- of- pay for ether workers are: Pressers, £4 iOs 6d a'week,' or 2s sJcl am-hour; all other shed hands, £4- 'os 6d' a week, or 2s 3} cl an hour.. Cooks, where cooking for 12 men o,r under, £5 0s 6d a- week, or life 3d a day for less than seven days. When more.than 12 men have to ho catered for, the rate shall bo increased hv 2s 6d a week for each additional man. Where the number exceeds 18 an assistant cook must be employed, and for over 28 men tho rate is to be fixed by mutual agreement. Cook’s assistants will receive £4 os 63. a-week,'oi- 16s 2d a day :: if than seven clays. Special rates for work after noon on -Saturdays are: Pressers, 2s Okl an -hour • shed hands, ls-lOd an heur.

WELLINGTON, July 25

It was reported by the president of the New Zealand Slieepshearers’ Federation (Mr H. D. Acland) at the annual meeting of the federation to-day that a special committee Under the Shearers and Shed Hands’ Award had met at the Government Statistician’s office to fix the index number governing rates of pay in the coming season. Mr Acland said also that.negotiations had commenced with a view to the extension of hours in the industry in the coming season, so production under )Var conditions would he assisted. TheeqUclusion of satisfactory arrangements was expected within a day or so.
