ITALIAN AIRCRAFT.

STRATEGY OF THE BRITISH. DESTROY BOMBERS ON GROUND. LONDON, July 6. The Royal Air Force is carrying out a now strategy against Italy in the Neal* East, owing to a mutual relative lack of fighters and the comparative fewness of aerodromes in Africa, savs the aeronautical correspondent of the “Sunday Times.” “Consequently,” he adds, “the best form of defence is to destroy Italian bombers on aerodromes of which a largo proportion can he visited by a small force of bombers. On the contrary, against Germany, which possesses 500 aerodromes, the Royal Air Force is using fighters to destroy bombers in the air. “Events have proved that the British have little to fear from Italian fighters, of which the best is the Mac-chi C 200 monoplane, with a speed of 310 miles an hour. It is armed with only two large-bore machine-guns the low rate of fire of which is materially .slowed down by interrupter gear (for firing through the propeller). The Macchi does not compare with the Spitfire. “Italian bombers, although not formidable, are more potent in the absence of modern fighters.”
