CHILD MIGRATION

DOMINION RECEPTION SCHEME. THOUSANDS OF INQUIRIES MADE. GREAT PROBLEM OF SHIPPING. (United Press Association.—Copyright.) (Received This Day, 10.55 a.m.) LONDON, June 27. Already besieged by a rush of Dominion residents seeking permits to return home from the United Kingdom, Australia House and New Zealand House have received thousands of inquiries from parents anxious to send their children to Australia and New Zealand. There have also been hundreds of inquiries from women, many of whom are trained nurses, eager to act as escorts. New Zealand House had one inquiry from a school of 280 children which wishes to migrate en bloc, together with the teachers. 'She children’s overseas reception scheme committee is receiving applications at the rate of 7000 to 8000 daily. It is authoritatively stated that when evacuation begins the number of children removable safely from the United Kingdom will probably not exceed 8000 a month. Shipping problems present the greatest difficulty. The arrangements to evacuate children to the Dominions are part of an organised plan to convert Britain into an island fortress. It is essential that the greatest possible mimber of s pon -combatants should be removed,. .. . ,
