NEW COMMITTEES.
RETURNED SOLDIERS’ ASSOCIATION. The executive of the Ashburton Returned Soldiers’ Association met last evening, the president (Mr E. M. Gabites) presiding. Mr W. G. Welsh (the new vice-president) and Messrs E. B. Condell and J. S. Weeks (new members of the executive) were welcomed to the meeting. Mr Condell was elected treasurer to the Association and Mr H. 0. Rage, the* third nominee for the executive at the recent election, was appointed 1 to; the executive in his place. The following sub-committees were appointed: Finance, secretary, treasurer and Mr S. Culverhouse; benevolent and pensions, Messrs L. S. Hopkins, I>. Smith and J. S. Weeks; house, Messrs S. Culverhouse, J. S. Weeks and H. C. Page (with Messrs M. Smith, J. Hardwick and C. Hanson of the social committee) ■ hospital visitors, Messrs Oondell and Culverhouse.
It was agreed that as members would be assisting at the side show function, to be held in Moore Street to-morrow evening, the usual Friday night social should be postponed.
