NEW ZEALAND FIGURES. FOR ALL ARMED FORCES." WELLINGTON, This Day. When the Minister of Finance (the Hon. W. Nash) released a statement on May 25 outlining the position of the public accounts for the financial year ended on March 31, he stated that full details of the War Expenses Account would be published when the accounts were finally gazetted. They have now been published in a Supplementary Gazette issued this morning. Under the heading of the War Expenses Account receipts from war taxation (shillings and pence omitted) include : £ Income tax 1,299,895 Estate duty 81,940 Succession duty 19,309 Gift duty 34,200 Customs duty 295,666 Beer duty 113,261 Gold export duty 88,564 Postage 250,000 The unexpended balances of appropriations for 1939-40 transferred from the Consolidated Fund are: Navy £750,831, Army £1,052,499, Air Force £484,496.

On the expenditure side, naval expenditure totalled £902,703, Army £3,572,532, Air Force and civil £34,754. The balances at the end of the year were ;• Cash (including public account cash balance and investments, which it is not possible to allocate to individual accounts) £776,275, imprests outstanding £177,105, the grand total being £8,089,515.
