THE EMPIRE ACTS.

SHIPPING SEIZED AT MALTA. LONDON, June 11. The news of Italy’s action was received calmly in Malta. All Italians were rounded up and interned. Italian shipping has been seized. A Bombay message states that the police arrested 70 Italians. Italy’s declaration quickly brought police and military machinery into operation in the Queensland sugar districts in which many Italians are engaged. It is believed that about 200 have been interned and others are being kept under strict observation. The public has been warned against taking the law into their own hands and has been assured that every precaution has been taken to preserve order and prevent subversive action. The authorities do not anticipate any serious disturbances.
